Hawaii Public Library - HI Tech Academy

The Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS), in partnership with Microsoft Corporation, is pleased to provide Digital Literacy and Microsoft IT Academy Programs for technology training and preparation for certifications for all of Hawaii’s library patrons. The Microsoft IT Academy is the first training program to launch under the HSPLS HI Tech Academy initiative and is expected to reach nearly one million HSPLS card holders, from keiki to kupuna, across the State of Hawaii. The Microsoft IT Academy program includes training and certification in Microsoft products, such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, in addition to advanced subjects such as programming, Web development and database development. The program’s digital literacy program will provide resources to equip Hawaii’s library patrons with the technical skills needed to become more employable.

  • A valid HSPLS library card number and PIN (please see a library staff for assistance).
  • A personal email account. If you do not already have an email account, click here to create an email account. You will need an email account to create a Microsoft Windows Live ID account.
  • A Windows Live ID. Click here for instructions on getting a Windows Live ID.
  • If accessing courses with sound from inside of the library, you will need to bring a set of headphones or earphones.
  • Courses must be viewed using Internet Explorer.
Step 2: Where will you be taking the courses?
  • If you are using a library computer, our computer management reservation system will only allow 60-minute sessions. Your Windows Live ID is tied to the courses you select; if you need to continue beyond time allowed, the course will remember the point at which you finished and you can resume at the same point when you log in again. If you would like to reserve a library computer, click here.
  • If you are taking the courses at home, please make sure your computer complies with Microsoft’s requirements for these courses. These requirements can be found by clicking here.
